☀️🎨 Looking for the best art summer camp for kids in Barcelona? Here’s a day at Little Makers!

Hi! I’m Radha – psychologist, mom, and founder of Little Makers, a process art studio inspired by the Reggio Emilia philosophy. I started this project back in 2015 in Amsterdam, and since then we’ve welcomed over 100,000 children in three European cities.

If you’re wondering what to do with kids in Barcelona this summer, and you’re looking for a fun, meaningful, and truly creative experience, here’s a peek at a day in our creative summer camp for kids aged 5 to 10.

Let’s go! 👇

☀️ 9:00 – Arrival & free exploration

When children arrive, they’re greeted by an artistic installation full of loose parts and sensory materials. It’s all set up to spark curiosity and let them explore, create, and connect at their own pace.

They get to experiment, play, invent and yes — they’ll get messy! That’s why we ask families to bring comfy clothes and we provide art smocks so kids can paint, stamp, build, splash and get creative without worries.

📣 If you’re someone who panics at the sight of a blue paint splatter on pants… this might not be the camp for you! 😄

🌈 9:30 – Welcome circle

Once everyone is here, we gather in a circle. Sometimes it’s a story, a song, a silly game or a meaningful chat. We also explain the plan for the day and invite kids to share ideas, feelings or wishes.

We want them to feel like part of the experience, not just participants.

🎨 10:00 – Let’s create!

This is where the magic happens. We offer at least three different creative workshops every day, tailored by age group and interest.

From painting and sculpture to textile art, collage, construction and more — everything is hands-on, open-ended and process-based. No templates, no expectations to finish anything. Just freedom to explore.

🧺 11:00 – Picnic time at the park

We head to the lovely green park right in front of our atelier for a mid-morning snack. We bring fruit, cookies and plenty of water.

After that, we play! Kids enjoy free play or games led by the teachers, depending on the group’s energy and mood. It’s a great time to run, move and recharge.

🧠 12:00 – Back to the studio

We return to the atelier and either continue with our previous creations or begin something new.

Our program follows a weekly theme, but we’re flexible with the pace and sequence, always adapting to the group’s rhythm. Our curriculum is emergent — we build from what the children are already interested in and curious about.

🕧 12:30 – Time to go (for half-day kids) / Lunch break

Some children leave at this time, while others stay for lunch. Families can bring lunch from home or opt for our healthy, affordable catering service.

We eat together, share stories, and slow things down for a bit.

😴 13:00 – Quiet time

After lunch, we have a calm space for resting, reading books, playing board games, exploring sensory materials or relaxing. And yes — kids who need a nap can absolutely take one.

This moment of rest is essential to help everyone recharge for the afternoon.

🎭 14:00 – Theatre, movement & expression

The afternoon is all about drama, movement and creative expression.

We dive into theatre games, improvisation techniques, dance, storytelling, music and poetry. Kids use their bodies, voices and imagination to invent, act, move and play.

It’s a beautiful way to mix the performing arts with visual arts, encouraging creativity through many different channels.

🔋 Have a super energetic child? They’ll love the challenges and variety here! But to be honest...👉 If your kid needs to sprint for 8 hours straight like a wild rocket, this might not be their ideal place. We love curious, hands-on, active kids — but also invite focus, rhythm and creative exploration.

🍉 16:00 – Afternoon snack at the park

Back to the park for some fruit, water and a final round of games and movement before winding down the day.

🔚 16:30 – Closing circle & goodbye

We tidy up our studio, organize everyone’s creations, and gather in a final circle to talk about what we loved, what surprised us, and what we’d like to do again.

🎁 Children who came for one day take their creations home right away. Those staying for the week receive their beautiful creative pack on the last day, full of art and memories.
